Get started

From a new project to an exportable first plan.

Create a project

Create a signed-in project from the dashboard and open it on the map.

Enter a project name on the dashboard and select Create.
Open the project card to enter the map workspace.
Changes are saved automatically. Check the sync indicator before closing the project.
Guest projects stay in the current browser. Export backups regularly.

Plan your first cache

A short, practical order for a first plan.

Place a point or import nearby caches as reference data.
Review potential spacing conflicts and other items that need attention.
Export GPX, CSV, text, or publication material when the plan is ready for review.

Map & layers

Map styles, additional layers, and planning context.

Base maps and additional layers

Change the base map and show or hide additional map data.

Choose a base map from the layer control in the upper-right corner.
Show paths, railways, protected areas, heritage data, or other available layers as needed.
Layer preferences are remembered for the project in this browser.

Markers, circles, and route lines

See relationships and potential conflicts between cache points.

Use the toolbar to show or hide 161 m circles.
Route lines visualize the selected connection order between caches.
Marker clustering keeps larger plans readable and responsive.

Cache management

Place, edit, select, and update cache points.

Place and edit caches

Add cache points on the map and edit their details.

Enable placement mode and select a position on the map.
Drag markers to fine-tune their position.
Use the focused view to edit one cache at a time.

Select and edit several caches

Apply the same changes to several selected caches.

Ctrl-click to select several caches.
Shift-drag to select caches inside an area.
Use the bulk editor for cache type, difficulty, terrain, size, and naming.

Trails & GeoArt

Generate cache points from lines, shapes, SVG files, or images.

Create a trail

Create cache points along a line you draw or import.

Draw a line on the map or import a GPX track as geometry.
Preview the point count and spacing.
Select Create points when the preview looks right.

Create GeoArt

Turn an SVG or image into a controlled cache-point pattern.

Load an SVG or raster image, then place, scale, and rotate it on the map.
Choose fill or outline mode and adjust sampling, minimum spacing, and optional point count.
Enable conflict avoidance to filter candidates that are too close to known points.
Preview the result and select Create points only when you are satisfied.

SVG vector mode

How vector artwork is interpreted without rasterizing it first.

Outline mode samples along paths; fill mode samples inside closed shapes.
Sampling controls detail and point density.
A clear SVG viewBox produces the most predictable proportions.

Import & export

Bring reference data in and move a plan to other tools.

Import nearby caches

Import existing caches or waypoints from a GPX file.

Drag a GPX file into the project or use the import button.
Use GPX Explorer to choose which records to add.
CachePlanner does not automatically fetch or redistribute cache data.
A geocaching GPX file may not distinguish an original mystery coordinate from a corrected final. Mark it as a physical location only when you know it is the solved final.

Export a plan

Export a complete project or a selected subset.

Use GPX for geocaching workflows and external map tools.
Use CSV or text for analysis and sharing.
The export preview explains which caches are included or excluded and why.
Field coordinates are used only when they exist and have been explicitly approved for that cache.

Publication material

Create a compact review package from the export dialog.

The package uses the same selection as the GPX, CSV, and text exports.
Each cache shows its status, checklist, coordinate source, and items that need review.
Excluded caches are listed with the reason for exclusion.

Quality review

Find common issues and prepare a plan for manual review.

Spacing and quality checks

Find potential conflicts and other items that need attention.

The proximity panel lists cache points that may be too close to each other or to imported physical waypoints.
An unresolved imported mystery uses a larger caution zone because its final location is unknown.
Must be fixed means the cache cannot be marked final yet. Needs review calls for a manual decision. Suggestions do not block the workflow.
CachePlanner is a planning aid. Final availability and publishability are determined during the reviewer process.

Review one cache at a time

Work through the review queue without losing context.

Open review mode from the dashboard or cache panel.
Items that must be fixed appear first, followed by items that need review and optional suggestions.
Use each item to jump to the relevant section, then continue to the next cache.

Check and export a finished project

Prepare a plan for reviewer and publication workflows.

Complete the metadata and the checklist for the relevant country.
Review coordinate quality, potential 161 m conflicts, and sensitive-area notices.
Approve field coordinates when they should be used, then mark the cache final and export the plan.

Undo and redo

Reverse common editing steps without losing the rest of the plan.

Use Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y to redo.
Changes are saved automatically. Check the sync indicator before closing a signed-in project.
Guest projects are stored locally in this browser; export backups regularly.
